How does The Eureka Caption Game Work? The Eureka Caption Game works like this. Each cartoon already has a caption. Each caption you submit is compared against that caption. You are then advised whether your caption was correct or not. It's a bit like Sudoku in that each game has only one unique solution.
How do I play the Eureka game? To play the Eureka caption game:-
- You subscribe.
- A password will be sent to your email address once your subscription has been confirmed.
- You then login using your email address and the password supplied and then you can play the Eureka game. If session cookies are enabled on your browser you will not have to login in again when you return to the Eureka website.
Can I try the game out without first subscribing to see whether I like it? Yes, you can go to the 'Free Test Drive' page and try it there without the need to subscribe.
Is the Eureka website suitable for a General Audience? The Eureka website is suitable for a general audience. We have designed the site and its content to ensure that it is suitable for viewing by all ages.
What language does Eureka use? Eureka uses British (as opposed to American) English
Is spelling important? Yes. Correct spelling is extremely important. Ensure that all words are spelt correctly using British English. When required ensure hyphens and apostrophes are included.
Are the captions case sensitive? No. The captions are not case sensitive.
How often is a new game posted? A new game is posted every Monday at midday New Zealand time.
What tells me if my caption is correct or not? The text at the top left of the cartoon will tell you if your caption was correct or not.
Do I have to submit my caption during the week a cartoon is posted? Yes you do. Once a new game is loaded the previous one is no longer available to be captioned.
Can I view the previous game cartoons and their captions? You cannot currently view the previous game cartoons and their captions. We will be making these available on the ‘Previous Game’ page in the near future.
What happens if the correct caption is not provided for a cartoon? If the correct caption is not provided for a cartoon that cartoon may be reused at a later date.
Are the submitted captions posted? No. Submitted captions are not posted.
Can I see some example cartoons and their caption? Yes. Some example cartoons and their captions can be found here
Is a Reward or a Prize Offered? Yes. Eureka does offer a weekly prize.
How is that weekly prize awarded? The weekly prize is awarded to the first subscriber who correctly captions all three weekly cartoons in the least number of attempts. In practise that will usually be the first person to correctly caption all three weekly cartoons in three attempts.
Can I be notified when a new game is loaded? Yes you can be notified each time a new game is loaded. When you subscribe ensure the box to the left of the ‘I would like to be emailed whenever a new cartoon is loaded’ request is checked. This box is checked by default.
Conversely if you do not wish to be notified simply ensure this box is not checked.
Am I free to publish the Eureka cartoons? No. You may not publish any of the Eureka cartoons without first obtaining our permission to do so. For more information please refer to our Terms and Conditions page Please note that we will not unreasonably withhold permission.
Is the Eureka game available on mobile phones? No. At this time the Eureka game is not currently available on mobile phones. If there is sufficient demand and the changes needed are easy and low cost to do, in the future we may provide the game in a suitable format for mobile phones.
Do I have to subscribe to play the Eureka game? Yes. You must be a paid up subscriber to play the Eureka Game.
Why is Eureka a subscription only game? Eureka does not use advertising to pay its site costs, so it is offered as a low cost subscription only game in order to cover those site costs.
What currency does Eureka use? Eureka uses the New Zealand Dollar ($NZ) as its currency.
What Payment System does Eureka use? Eureka uses the Auckland Savings Bank (ASB) online payment system. This allows Eureka to receive subscriptions via Visa and MasterCard. |
